This is my first piece in a planned suite for Tenebrae, a poignant service that takes place on Good Friday, encompassing readings and progressive extinguishing of lights or candles, evoking the 7 last words of Christ. It is written for Tenor or Mezzo soloist, SSAATTBB chorus (humming), and piano. This setting was inspired when I attended a 2020 Tenebrae service via Zoom, a sad situation indeed.
